Put A Smile on Your Face #23

photo: PAUL
Photo: I'm enjoying my sixth snow day in two weeks (#longliveJuno2015). I'm starting to get used to it (and the 7ft drift covering up the front door). Three day weeks and long weekends are always welcome. I sleep in late, read a good book or magazine, buried deep in my white polar bear blanket.

Article: I have never converted myself over to the dark side... the world of Uggs. That said, I won't won't convert myself to Crocs either, even if Leandra, from Man Repeller, says that those "shoes" are comfortable. To weed the garden, maybe, but good old plastic clogs work just as well, and without the holes. Why wear Crocs, except to lose all respect from others?

Goodbye (snow)

Alright everyone, let's get a little celebration going because this is the last post I am doing with snow in it (amen). So here goes my last winter post!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy :)

Goodbye by Glenn Morrison (love this song)

SPRING SPRING SPRING GOODBYE SNOW SPRING SPRING SPRING HELLO FLOWERS AND SUNSHINE AND DRESSES!

Jeans: Levis
Boots: L.L.Bean
Button up: Gap
Sweater: Ralph Lauren
Vest: Nordstrom (don't know which brand...)
Sunglasses: Tommy Hilfiger

Do I dare mention how long this winter was? All New Englanders will agree with me that it was painful. I never thought February could seem longer. I guess the shortest months move the slowest. But now it's April!!!
Semi Fun Fact: every spring my neighbors lawn becomes covered in crocuses (small purple flowers, always the first to bloom around here) and it looks like a purple carpet you just want to lie down in and sleep like a princess surrounded by purple velvet.

It honestly feels like a blessing to have all this snow disappear. I have waited long long weeks for the sun to peak out from behind the gray clouds. Now don't get me wrong, I love winter...that is for the first month, then it gets cold. Like many people I have seasonal depression which means during the winter (or when I get a lack of sunlight for a long period of time) I get unhappy and stressed. Stress leads to frustration, sleepless nights, and bad skin (ugh). The way I attempt to solve this problem is a special lamp called a "Happy Light." It's seriously a light that makes jokes to make you laugh and like tickles you so you become happy. No just kidding - actually a "Happy Lamp" lets off light rays similar to the sun giving your body the illusion that it is outside under the sun. I am not fully sure how it works from a biological sense but I know it works fairly well. The only thing is it is a commitment - 1 to 2 hours in front of it a day, and I'm not so good at that. Anyway I guess the other side to all of that is that when spring finally comes I am extra happy. It can be only 50 degrees out and I seriously will go tan. No joke. The other day it was 53 degrees with no wind and a clear sky and I lay on my porch in shorts and a sports bra reading for 2 hours....it was amazing. Thank god you're here spring I missed you.

Frozen

Hello my little snowmen,
So somewhere it is warm and the sun is shining and people are in bikinis, but not me, nope, sadly. I'm freezing my butt off up here in New England. There's snow on snow on snow plus some ice. So why not do a frozen post? Gosh all I want to do is let go of this snow.

Let it go*

The one insanely beautiful thing about winter is the view. It's always stunning no matter where I look. The sun illuminates the snow in a way that can never be described. The ice reflects your boots when you walk and makes the moonwalk that much easier. The frozen leaves and snow pilled on the fur trees is beautiful. Icicles are fun to hit, and snowballs easy to throw. Sledding couldn't be better and skiing has taken my heart. I do love winter, if only there was a way to have snow but still be warm...

Sweater: Emma's closet (I steal clothes from her...)
Violet Vest: L.L.Bean
Brown Vest: Nordstrom

Don't freeze,

Snowplows and Sun

Urban Outfitters infinity scarf, Land's End sweater, H&M cords, Madden Girl chelsea booties

Taking pictures outside was such a good idea for the lighting, but I should have worn sunglasses because the snow was so bright (I am looking down in every single picture except for the first)! This look will keep you warm. Pair a colorful cable knit sweater with jeans or corduroys. If you wear a bright coat, I'd suggest to drop the scarf. However if your outfit looks a little dull, or  dark adding  colorful bracelets or a chunky scarf will lighten your look.

Baby It's Cold Outside

I love snow but to a certain point. When it gets brown and slushy, I start longing for summer. When the snow gets so high my rain boots are filled with snowflakes, I start longing for summer. When I can't feel my hands because they're red and almost num, I start longing for summer. When I feel like I gained 10 pounds from wearing chunky sweaters and puffer jackets, I start longing for summer. But when I'm busy catching snowflakes on my tongue and throwing snowballs, I want winter to last forever.
